Making a will

Making a Will is one way of being sure that your money and possessions will be distributed as you wish after your death. In certain cases if you do not leave a Will the results can be disastrous for your family or close partner and your money may not end up where you would have wished. If you own property it is important that your last wishes be noted in writing.

How do I make a will?

John Henderson & Sons can guide you through the very simple procedures involved with making a will. We will take your instructions, at home if necessary, and prepare a specific Will that meets your needs and wishes. In many cases it will only take a five or ten minute meeting to ascertain your wishes and the rest can be left to us. John Henderson & Sons will also advise you whether inheritance tax is a matter to be considered. There are a number of steps which can be taken to reduce tax liability and in appropriate cases inheritance tax planning can save substantial sums of money. The cost of making a Will is generally not that great. John Millar will be pleased to give you a quotation on request. We offer to make a standard Will free on completion of a house purchase.

Powers of attorney

This enables someone to manage your affairs when you are no longer able to do so for what ever reason. John Millar has many years experience in handling the affairs of elderly clients who are either no longer able to look after their business affairs or who simply do not wish to.
